The Arctic is a unique environment and is home to indigenous people who depend on its resources for subsistence. Oil and gas reserves in the Arctic have been developed for decades and there is a huge potential for more. At Shell, we have been operating in the area for over 40 years and our work is centred on the safety of and respect for the local people and their environment. We also have a record of leading the development of technologies needed to overcome the challenges of developing oil and gas in the Arctic. Our latest webchat is called Developing Arctic resources safely and responsibly. Here, you can join us to discuss this important topic. We’ll be asking questions such as: What technologies does Shell use to ensure safety? Can there be effective responses to an oil spill in the Arctic? How can Shell’s development benefit local communities? Are environmental, economic or social concerns Shell’s priority?vv
